What is a Life Insurance Agent’s Time Worth?

Top producing life insurance agents realize that they can’t make any money if they’re sitting around licking envelopes and sticking flyers in the mail.

They realize they can’t make money if they’re talking to the ad rep at the newspaper or stopping by the print shop to pick up postcards. They realize they have to delegate all the grunt work out and pay people a few bucks an hour to do that sort of stuff and spend all their time talking to clients and prospects.

How else do you get paid? You don’t make a nickel unless you’re talking to people who have expressed an interest in what you have to offer.

All the other stuff must be delegated out. And it must be delegated out as soon as possible even before you think you’re possibly ready. I mean how much does it cost to pay a kid to stick labels and stamps on some postcards?

Any time that you do work that’s $10 an hour work , you’re costing yourself $500 or more per hour because that’s what you’re worth when you sell a policy (the average amount of talk time it takes a salesperson to sell a policy is 2 hours. If your average commission is $1000 per policy, that means you make $500 per hour.

So, why in the world would you would you ever want to be doing $10 per hour work when you could be spending your time making $500 an hour?)

Delegate, Delegate, Delegate!

I can’t stress this point enough! I know one life insurance agent who has a personal assistant who does nothing but take care of his personal things, such as paying his bills, stopping at the cleaners, getting his groceries, dropping the dog off at the vet, and so forth.

This life insurance agent realizes that all those things don’t produce any life insurance leads or put a nickel in revenue and it’s worth it for him to have this personal assistant do all that work.

A lot of people say:

“Well, I can’t afford to hire somebody right now.”

I don’t buy that! If not now then when?

You might be tight on cash, but if you never take that leap of faith and hire someone to help you, you’ll never be able to make the kind of big money that’s possible in the life insurance business.

If you’re truly broke…Get your family in on the act. Have your spouse and or kids help out with the stuff that has nothing to do with selling. It will teach them the value of a dollar and possibly bring you closer together as a family. But whatever you decide, be sure to make it your goal to delegate everything but the sale.
