Fear Is The BIGGEST Block In The Road

By Dean Cipriano

Well, there’s a lot of fear out there these days. Don’t you think?

What with the two wars looming over our heads, warnings about the daily terror alert colors, the insane price of gas, and so on…are scaring the hell out of lots of people.

Then, you add the constantly sinking/floating stock market, inflation and higher interest rates coming back, record layoffs and bankruptcies and nothing but bad economic news coming out on a daily basis.

And let’s not forget the fear of fear itself! You may or may not be old enough to remember what President Roosevelt said to America in the midst of the Great Depression: “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.” No matter what you think of him, if you ever even think of him at all…he was very correct. The fear of fear itself is totally handicapping, totally incapacitating and generally ruins the quality of life.

Many of the life insurance agents we talk to, after being asked specifically, say they are fearful of lots of things…including the fear of fear. When pressed for details, they tell us things like:

  • I’m afraid that if the economy keeps getting worse, I’ll have a harder and harder time getting people to buy insurance or make long-term investments. (Or whatever the product is. Fill-in-the-blank to pick the product line you’re worried about to customize this comment for yourself.)
  • I’m fearful that people are so worried that they won’t make any financial decisions, let alone big ones.
  • People are so turned off by the stock market, I’m afraid they won’t want to make any investments at all, even Equity Indexed Annuities.
  • I’m anxious because with interest rates so low, people are refinancing their houses, putting the money into remodeling the house…leaving nothing to invest or buy insurance with.
  • I’m nervous because interest rates are so low that people don’t want to buy annuities because they pay out so low, and old annuities renew at horribly low rates and I’ll get cancellations and/or really angry clients who won’t buy anything from me in the future.
  • I’m scared that anti-telemarketing laws will ruin my ability to follow-up with people on the phone.
  • I’m fearful about:_________________ __________________ _____________________. (Fill-in-the blanks to place your additional worries in here.)

Does any of this sound familiar? Do YOU ever say or think things like this?

If you do…what is the reality about these negative thoughts? For example, does worrying and being full of fear help in any way?

Does being fearful help situations? Does it make situations you don’t like go away?

I think that, deep down there, you know the answers to these questions.

You know that being afraid helps nothing. That being fearful creates HUGE roadblocks to attaining success.

See, fear takes us out of the moment and makes us focus on the past and the future.

What do I mean by that? Well, many people who are in a state of fear think about things like:

  • Why did that happen last month? Now, I’m really in trouble. I can’t believe it happened.
  • It’s just not fair that I always get stuck in situations like that. It never fails to go the same way for me.
  • How can I accomplish this? I’ve failed so many times before.
  • I should have known better. Now I’m never going to be able to recover.

See how all these kinds of fearful thoughts are talking about what happened in the past? Now, listen to these kinds of thoughts:

  • As soon as this economy picks up again, I’ll finally be OK.
  • When they finally get my office set up right, I’ll start getting back on track.
  • s soon as my wife gets out of school, I can start putting more energy into the business.
  • When the terrorism fears subside, people will start making long-term decisions.

See how these kinds of thoughts are talking about what’s possibly going to happen in the future? Both of these thought patterns are very natural when people are afraid, worried or fearful. They think and brood about the past. They hope, wish and pray about the future.

Have any of you ever felt or experienced that sort of thing? And it really isn't that productive, is it?

What are you missing when you're thinking about the future or the past most, or all, of the time…what are you truly missing? The present moment…Life.

You're missing your life when you're trapped in the past or future. You're also missing messages that contain the answers you are looking for.

You're missing what people are telling you, the answers to the messages…the answers to your fears that are right there in front of you! You could so easily get rid of them and unlock them. But you're not going to notice the messages if you're so busy thinking about the past or future. You've got to get to the point where you really live in the present, and use that flow of energy to constantly be focused on the present, dealing with the things as they are now.

See, this thinking of how things were…and how they might be…takes you out of the moment, and makes it so much harder to get whatever it is you want to get. The fear places a big brick wall right in front of the path to success, maybe allowing you to take a peek over it…but usually keeping you stuck on the wrong side of the wall.

When you are very relaxed, you can think about the present. You can focus not on what happened, the spilt milk of the past…nor thinking about how you can finally be happy when some event(s) occur in the future…but on what you can do RIGHT NOW to be both happy today as you strive for your goals…and actually have a realistic chance of reaching them!

Please keep in mind that there's always a message in this fear you experience! You can use the fear you feel as an instinctive reaction, to your advantage if you’re self-aware, and are paying attention!

See, you must acknowledge the fear before you can release it. But, before you can acknowledge the fear, you must become self-aware so you have the capability to honestly assess yourself and your emotions.

Then, once you acknowledge the fear…you can deal with it for what it is…a useless and counter-productive emotion that is created in your own mind. Once you can admit the fear…and are able to let it go…you will see amazing things happen to your life and wallet!

Since there are messages for you in the fears you instill in yourself, you really need to be in a higher state of consciousness, which will allow you to interpret the messages you get from others…and help you use the messages to release the fear!

Whenever fear, anxiety or worry dominate your thoughts, look for the messages even harder. Shift your mind to your true purpose, and negative emotions can be released.

Struggling Or Fighting Or Overworking Or Forcing To Make Things Happen Does Not Allow You To Be In The Flow Of Universal Energy. You Have To Become An Observer To See What's Really Going On!

You have to be able to take a step back and be an observer.

Let me use a quick example to illustrate my point.

Has anybody ever told you a story about a real problem they're having in their life, and it's a truly horrible problem? And as you listen to this story, the answer is so clear and so obvious to you.

Yet for the person stuck in the problem, they have no clue what the answer is.

For example, let’s say someone’s in an abusive relationship, and they’re telling you that they were beaten by their spouse, and he pulled a gun on her. Something really bad.

So, when you’re an observer, you're listening to this story, and you’re thinking of the obvious answer. “Leave this idiot.” Right? Could it be any clearer to you?

Then if the answer is so clear to you…why isn’t it as clear, or even clear at all, to the person who is being abused? Why can’t she see what you see? Shouldn’t she be an accurate judge of what’s going on…and therefore clearly see the answers?

NO!

Many people who are submerged in fear, like the hypothetical situation I just described…can’t see anything except the past and future. Won’t they be likely to say things like:

“I can’t believe he did that to me. Again. Why do I let it happen? What if I hadn’t met this monster? Wow, wouldn’t THAT have been wonderful? Hey, if I had just called the cops last time. Why didn’t I do it? Well, as soon as Jimmy gets into grade school, I’m out of here. Then, I can get my life together. Just a couple more years.”

What the hell is she doing? Why can't she figure out the answers that are so obvious to all of us?

The problem is that they're not living their life in the mode of an observer. They're in the middle of the situation, and can't see the messages as the clues to the answers they seek. If they were observing their own life in the moment, in the present, they would recognize all the messages as being important clues…and hence, find their answers.

So, how do you become an observer instead of a helpless victim of fear? How do you watch what's going on from an objective viewpoint?

You gotta ask yourself the right questions. Ask yourself things like:

  • If somebody told me this story, what would I tell them? What would I see that they don’t?
  • What would (or did) my hero do in this same situation?
  • f I was being paid to observe this situation, what would I do and think that are different than what I’m doing and thinking now?
  • If I was calm, not anxious and fearful, and I saw this situation happening to a stranger I met where I had no stake in the outcome…what would I advise?

And so on.

Then the apparent answers are right there for you to see and use!

So, the moral of the story of losing the fear? You have to be thinking in a higher plane of awareness. You can’t think like you might have been raised or taught to think. You may have to shed the upbringing and education you were “blessed” with.

I know I have done that. I have shed ALL of the crap, negative, fearful, anxious, whining, nervous and destructive ways of thinking I had instilled in me from the time I could breathe. I did not allow myself to fall into thinking through a veil of fear. And if I could do it…anyone can do it!
